MIKE SEVERNS DIVING |
We view diving as a fun, relaxing, intellectually and spiritually
fulfilling endeavor. Therefore we have no arbitrary time limit on the dives
and we travel very slowly underwater, wanting you to see and experience
as much as possible. You are free to dive with one of us, having us show
you creatures and behaviors we know well or be off a-ways in your own world.
You will not hear us banging on our tanks underwater, see us herding people
around or chasing and harassing marine life. We're here to accompany you
on an adventure that we hope will become one of your cherished diving memories.
The Boat:
Pilikai (embrace the sea) is a 38-foot painted aluminum Munson with twin
300 hp engines, hard-top sun roof, head, broad swim platform, ladders designed
especially for divers wearing fins, and loads of deck space. A fresh water
shower is available for rinsing off and for rinsing cameras. We take twelve
divers on the boat; however, the divers are split into two groups of six
for a peaceful, uncrowded experience underwater. |
2 - TANK DIVE (EVERY DAY EXCEPT FRIDAY)
These are 2-tank boat dives for certified divers only and
the locations of the actual dives are always determined in the morning depending
on the interests of the divers and on the weather. We do not take snorkelers.
For information on 3-tank dives, Night dives and Coral Spawning dives, please
contact us.
Time:
Meeting time is 6:15 AM, and we return between 12:00 and 1:00. If you're
wondering why we meet so early, the almost daily trade winds start to pick
up around 11:30 or 12:00 and this allows us to be underwater or on our way
home when they start.
Dive Equipment:
We offer ScubaPro BC's and ScubaPro regulators with computers. We have 3mm
or 5mm wetsuits depending on your size (3mm for people over about 145 pounds
and 5mm for people less than about 145 pounds who chill more easily). Water
temperature varies from 75 degrees F (24 degrees Celsius) in Jan, Feb, Mar
to 82 degrees F (28 degrees Celsius) in July, Aug, Sept. There is no thermocline.
Unless you weigh more then 200 pounds or are very warm blooded, don't even
THINK of wearing just a fleece dive skin!
Safety:
Safety is a high priority. In our twenty-three years of operation we are
accident-free. We carry a high quality oxygen system and all crew are well-trained
in its use. All crew are also current in CPR and first aid. VHF radios and
a cellular phone are on-board for communication.
Food:
Kona blend coffee, hot chocolate (in the winter), fresh pastries, fruit,
juice, soda and snacks are provided.
Where to meet:
Kihei Boat Ramp. Yes, there is parking there. |
Cost :
Our two-tank dive trip is $125 including mask, fins, BC, regulator with
computer, and wetsuit. There is a discount of $15 if you have
your own equipment (or $5 discount each for regulator, BC or wetsuit). If
you dive with us three days or more, there is an additional $10 off per
day. Private charter rate is $1300 including equipment. |
